Symptoms

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible Causes

- Misadjusted park and neutral position switch - Park and neutral position switch harness is open or shorted - Park and neutral position switch poor electrical connection - Faulty park and neutral position switch

When Detected

The signal of the park/neutral position (PNP) switch is not changed in the process of engine starting and driving.

Tech Notes

For models with "Manual Transmission" the P1706 is for the Neutral Position Switch.

Description

When the shift lever position is P (A/T models only) or N, park/neutral position (PNP) switch is ON. Engine Control Module (ECM) detects the position because the continuity of the line (the ON signal) exists.
